Filip van As
Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Netherlands
Program manager pedestrian policy and coordinator national walking platform
Filip van As has been working at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management since 2019. He has been municipal councillor (8 years) and alderman (11 years), between 1998 and 2017. In the years between 2014 and 2017, when he was alderman in the city of Zwolle, he initiated a national platform to enhance the position of cycling in the Netherlands (Tour de Force). Since 2017 his focus has been on the position of pedestrians in the public space, an even more neglected subject. He was one of the initiators of a bottom up movement, which in 2019 resulted in the formation of a national platform (Ruimte voor Lopen). He is coordinator of this platform. Van As began his career as a civil servant in the province of Zuid-Holland. He has an MA degree in law and a BA degree in history, both earned from Leiden University.
