A Tale Of Walkability And Obstruction In Dhaka

Architect Shaila Islam is currently working as a faculty member in a reputed public university of Bangladesh. She holds a professional B.Arch degree from Khulna University and a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from The University of Tokyo. She obtained prestigious ADB–JSP scholarship in 2017 for pursuing her postgraduate study in Japan. Her area of research includes urban mobility, walkability, tactical urbanism, people centric transportation planning and design. She also earned several awards for academic excellence and also published multiple articles in various journals.
Being grown up in a high dense, developing context, she is fascinated issues related to urban development and the future of urbanity especially the threats of climate change, haphazard urbanization, and erratic redevelopment in cities. With her research and practice she is committed to help reach the Sustainable Development Goals for her country Bangladesh.
